A “Sicilian of Tunisia for three generations”, as she likes to repeat, Claudia Cardinale was barely 17 years old when she won the title of “the most beautiful Italian in Tunis”, a distinction that paved the way for her career as an international star of the 7th art. This film is dedicated to Claudia Cardinale, in which she evokes with emotion and nostalgia her early youth spent between Tunis where she was born and Carthage where she studied, and the deep ties she kept with Tunisia, of which she calls herself “the ambassador”. Her testimony shows the sense of hospitality of Tunisians when they welcomed Sicilian immigrants throughout the nineteenth century and is an explicit invitation towards greater tolerance in Europe towards emigrants from southern countries.
