The body of a Hollywood scriptwriter, Joe Gillis, is discovered in the swimming pool of a home inhabited by a silent film star, Norma Desmond. Via flashback Joe explains what happened, starting with the day he found himself in Norma’s driveway trying to escape from the finance company. Because he need money so badly, he agrees to work on a story, which Norma has written in the belief it will be her return to the screen… High tension drama of modern Hollywood, Gloria Swanson is superb as the actress who continues to live in the glory of her past and William Holden turnis in another of his outstanding performances.
